Australian artist of Sri Lankan heritage Roger K presents his emotionally powerful new single, “Please Don’t Put It on Me,” a cinematic track that explores childhood trauma, social pressure and the burdens children inherit from adults.
Described as Emo Alt R&B or Emo Trap, the song combines atmospheric orchestration, soulful vocals and trap- and drill-influenced rhythms. Written from a child’s perspective but delivered through an adult voice, the track captures the feeling of carrying emotional weight that was never meant to belong to you.
The song was inspired by Roger’s reflections on incarceration, childhood instability and the question of whether early support could change someone’s future. Its central lyric—“Please don’t put it on me / Don’t you know I can’t breathe”—becomes a plea for understanding, freedom and compassion.
Roger wrote, arranged, performed, produced, mixed and mastered the entire record himself. The accompanying self-directed animated visualiser draws on reimagined Banksy-inspired imagery, depicting children encountering authority, violence, displacement and conflict.
After 20 years of gigging, Roger K is now stepping forward as a solo artist with a record that encourages adults to reflect on what they place upon the next generation.
