The French Latin House pioneer headlined the grand opening of Aura Bay Open Air: a brand- new venue situated within new Light Park on Ódubai Island on the Danube in Budapest — Friday 18 September 2026.
On Friday 18 September 2026, two milestones arrived on the same night. HUGEL, one of the most influential Latin House artists in the world, played his first standalone headline show in Hungary. He did so as the headline act of an Open Air party for the grand opening of Aura Bay, a brand-new, jaw dropping outdoor event concept situated partially within the new state-of-the-art light park spectacle at Óduba Bay on Budapest’s Óbudai Island. From 15:00 until 23:00, HUGEL became one of the first DJ’s to take the reins behind the decks in the awe-inspiring new venue, alongside a host of other talent including Tom Enzy, Gatano and more – taking advantage of its cutting-edge light installations to illuminate minds for the night. The historic former shipyard came to life and showcased a vibrant landmark moment in the city’s cultural calendar. The pairing is deliberate. A globally significant artist premiering a venue built to amaze with its unmistakable aesthetic; Aura Bay Open Air opened as one of the most unique dance destinations in the world. Aura Bay Open Air is a new open-air venue on Óbudai Island (Hajógyári-sziget), the historic former shipyard set on the Danube in Budapest. It sits within a broader destination of Aura Bay that combines immersive light installations, sculptures and overall experiences in both indoor and outdoor settings. With the Open Air venue taking space within a portion of the outdoor section of the Light Park, making use of its illuminated gardens and 20-metre illuminated LED whale while partying under the stars – the environment is unlike any other party in the world. With the whale as the centre piece, plenty of other attractions line the grounds; a walkable illuminated pyramid, the botanical light garden of Blooms Park, the Crystal Garden, twin 4,000-LED sculpture faces of Talking Heads and the interactive Kickit light-ball court turn the grounds into a living, luminous landscape.
Once night falls, light and music become inseparable, the venue itself becomes part of the show. This is a space built for the future: an immersive and entirely singular home for international artists, top-of-the-line production and world-class programming on the Danube.
Born in Marseille, HUGEL is a French producer and DJ widely regarded as one of the key architects of the global Afro Latin House movement and one of the most influential Afro House artists on the planet. Through his imprint, Make The Girls Dance Records, he has delivered multiple #1 Beatport hits and built a multi-platinum catalogue that surpassed one billion streams in a single year in 2025.
That same year marked a defining chapter: his first-ever residency at Hï Ibiza became one of the standout successes of the season, anchoring a global tour that spanned Ibiza, Miami, New York, Los Angeles, Mexico and Brazil, alongside main-stage appearances at EDC Las Vegas, Tomorrowland, BPM Festival and Untold. In 2026 he released his debut album ‘Twenty One’ which was met with critical acclaim with ‘Movin’ To The Sun’ clearing over 100m Spotify streams since its release in May. He also made his first–ever Coachella appearance and is mid-way through a second Hï Ibiza residency – marking himself as the very pinnacle of dance music culture in 2026.
His sound is deeply rhythmic and emotionally charged, built for massive dancefloors. It fuses the Balearic spirit of Ibiza with Mediterranean cultural richness, weaving Latin, oriental and tribal influences into a distinctive Afro House signature. Having started DJing on vinyl at sixteen, inspired by Carl Cox, Laurent Garnier, Daft Punk, Amine Edge and David Guetta, HUGEL now brings that fully realised sound to Hungary for the very first time as a headline act.
The supporting bill brought together a mix of established and emerging names from across the region’s electronic music scene and beyond. Tom Enzy has built an international profile through his work as a producer and DJ, earning him a previous Top 150 spot in DJ Mag’s poll, while Gatano and Freespirit bring their own takes on contemporary house music to the line-up. Melø b2b Groove Generation add a synchronised collaborative live energy to the programme, alongside Budapest-based collectives Budai House Clique and Shooma b2b Guztavo representing the city’s local house scene blended with Portuguese flair, finalising the lineup is futuristic three-piece house outfit miirabelle. Together, the wider billing reflected both Budapest’s growing electronic music community and the international focus of Aura Bay’s opening programme.
