For today’s drivers, the journey is about more than getting from point A to point B—it’s about the experience along the way. DS18’s 2026 American Driving Experience Report, based on a survey of 1,000 U.S. drivers, reveals just how important quality sound has become inside the vehicle.
More than 90% of respondents admitted they have stayed parked in their vehicle just to finish a favorite song, podcast, or show. When asked which part of their vehicle they would most like to improve, car audio ranked as the top choice, with 26.8% of drivers selecting an audio upgrade.
The survey also found that 72% of drivers have already upgraded their sound system or are open to doing so in the future. Speakers were the most desired upgrade, followed by complete audio systems, head units, subwoofers, and amplifiers. Many respondents are also ready to invest in better sound, with the most common upgrade budget falling between $250 and $1,000.
From casual listeners to dedicated custom-build enthusiasts, the findings confirm that powerful, clear, and immersive audio remains a major part of the modern driving experience. DS18 continues to deliver the products drivers need to build systems that play louder and sound better.
