Bristol’s Clipz ramps up the tempo of Denon’s rave smasher, following a speed garage remix from Majestic in February
Clipz drops his new drum’n’bass remix of Denon Reed’s catchy single, ‘I need to know’, this Friday, February 21st, via Relentless Records.
Released in September, ‘I need to know’—a typical addition to Denon’s ‘old school meets new school’ bassline sound—has racked up 2.5 million Spotify streams, landed at and climbed to #1 on Shazam’s UK Discovery Chart, and has seen regular support from huge names like originator Jamie Duggan and fellow Brummie hero, TS7. Its lively energy is captured in a new music video, shot at the sold-out Leeds Warehouse Cru2 event, which took place in February.
For his remix, Clipz switches up the tempo, accelerating the anthemic vocal for maximum dancefloor impact, coupling it with a biting bassline and relentless drum’n’bass break, turning the track into a full-throttle D’n’B belter. It follows a spicy speed garage remix by Majestic, which dropped earlier this month.
Bristol-based Clipz is the drum’n’bass alias of Redlight (‘Get Out My Head’, ‘Lost In Your Love’, ‘9TS’), a venture that kicked off in 2020 with the breakout single, ‘Again’ featuring Ms Dynamite, Ms Banks & Jaykae (20M+ overall streams). Born out of Bristol’s 90s warehouse rave scene, Clipz embraces a widespread love for house, techno, hip hop and vocal-lead dance music, while channelling his deep-rooted connection to jungle, D‘n’B and bass music. In 2022, he was asked to remix KH’s 2022 standout staple ‘Looking At Your Pager’ and, in 2024, was hit up by double Grammy-winning Fred again.. to remix his 2024 track, ‘places to be’.
Denon Reed, a 22-year-old DJ/producer from Birmingham and founder of the influential events brand Cru2, is leading a bassline revival. Known for his high-energy, 3,000-capacity club nights across the UK, Denon regularly books bassline legends like Jamie Duggan and rising peers like TeeDee and Chad Harrison, as well as fresh talent like GS. His tracks have caused carnage in raves UK-wide, blending classic bassline vibes with a modern twist. With a growing fanbase and a reputation for throwing unforgettable events, Denon is rapidly becoming a key player in the UK bassline scene.
Both artists have packed 2025s ahead. Clipz will be performing at Milton Keynes Bowl on August 9th for ‘Tribes Unite’, alongside Pendulum, Andy C, Hedex B2B Bou, and Wilkinson. Denon Reed also has several upcoming shows lined up, including Birmingham’s Lab 54 in mid-February, Cru2 Sheffield at Tank Nightclub in Sheffield on March 8th, Sound of Bassline vs Cru2 at TESTBED in Leeds on March 29th, Cru2: The Birmingham Shutdown at Forum Birmingham on April 26th, and Bassline Festival 2025 on June 21st (details TBA).
