Born out of the underground scene in Boise and shaped by key moments in San Francisco, DRK DREAMZ have built their path through passion, persistence, and a deep connection to music culture. What started as attending shows quickly evolved into hosting events, DJing, and eventually producing their own sound. Influenced by acts like The Crystal Method, the duo now leans into darker, bass-driven styles while staying true to their roots. With new releases on the horizon, DRK DREAMZ continue to grow organically, driven by creativity, authenticity, and a strong sense of community.
The Origins
How did you begin with music and DJing?
We started DJing in 2011 when we began going to shows in Boise. Pretty quickly, we felt the need to be more involved, so we started organizing events, bringing in talent, and DJing for other promoters.
A big turning point came in 2014 when we played a show in San Francisco. That experience made us realize that if we wanted to be taken seriously as artists, we needed to start producing our own music.
The Journey So Far
Which labels and artists have you worked with?
Over the years, weโve thrown hundreds of events and collaborated with a wide range of artistsโfrom underground names to more mainstream acts.
Weโve also done some ghost production in hip-hop for a larger artist, but overall weโve kept our original music focused on our collaboration as a duo, aside from occasional remixes.
New Music on the Horizon
Any new releases?
Weโre currently releasing one track per week leading up to our upcoming EP under this new project. Our next release, โSinnerz,โ drops on June 1.
Inside the Studio
Whatโs your setup like?
Our studio is centered around Focal monitors, along with a selection of hardware synths including two Moog unitsโthe Matriarch and Sub37โas well as a DSI Prophet.
Which DAW do you use?
We use Ableton for most of our production work.
Daily Life & Balance
What does an ordinary day look like?
We both run our own businesses, so our days can be long. Most of our music production happens at nightโwe aim for at least an hour daily, with longer sessions on weekends.
We also make sure to prioritize intentional time together. When weโre aligned personally, the music naturally flows better.
The Art of DJing
What sets DJing apart from other performing arts?
For us, itโs all about community and connection. DJing is a shared experienceโreading the crowd, feeling their energy, and being part of a supportive creative network makes it unique.
Evolution of Sound
How has your musical taste evolved?
We started out inspired by artists like The Crystal Method and Stanton Warriors.
Over time, weโve naturally shifted toward darker, deeper dubstep and halftime, which feels more aligned with our current identity.

Favorite DJ experience?
Playing a Burning Man Decompression event in 2012. If you were thereโฆ you already know.
Challenges & Growth
Biggest challenge as artists?
At one point, we had to step away from music to focus on building stable income. The pressure of โmaking itโ can really block creativity.
Now that weโre not financially dependent on music, we feel freer to create what we truly loveโand thatโs been a major shift for us.

Honestly, just being together under the starsโฆ with a Funktion-One nearby.

What do you do in your spare time?
We love spending time together and with our big mastiffs.
Advice to Emerging Artists
What advice would you give to new producers?
Donโt get stuck looping 16 bars forever. Finish your tracks, release them, and move on. The more you create, the better you get.
Thereโs no such thing as a perfect trackโeveryone hears things differently. Focus on improving your mixdowns, and once youโre there, commitโbounce your chains to audio and stop over-tweaking.
