Lost Between Machines and Mountains: Dani Navarrete & Richard Rozen Craft Hypnotic Minimal Grooves on Life With Mountains

Out on March 13, 2026 via Based Faith, Life With Mountains finds Dani Navarrete and Richard Rozen exploring the hazy intersection between deep tech, minimal and late-night deep house. The three-track EP unfolds with a playful narrative — reportedly conceived while the duo were “lost in the jungles and mountains of Costa Rica,” armed only with a DX7 and a rusty 808 — a tongue-in-cheek story that perfectly mirrors the record’s trippy and hypnotic character.

Opening cut “Heart 808” sets the tone immediately. Built around a warm yet punchy low-end, the track balances classic drum machine heritage with a restrained minimal groove. Subtle synth pulses drift through the arrangement, while the rhythmic structure leaves enough breathing space for the groove to unfold naturally — a clear nod to the aesthetics of timeless deep tech.

“El Es Dee” pushes the EP further into psychedelic territory. The track leans into a rolling bassline and subtly modulated textures that create a slow-burning sense of tension. Instead of relying on obvious breakdowns, the duo opts for gradual evolution, layering delicate sonic details that reward patient listening and make the track particularly effective in extended DJ sets.

Closing piece “50mg” stretches the hypnotic formula to its most expansive point. At nine minutes, it’s the EP’s most immersive moment, driven by a deep and meditative groove. The production feels spacious and deliberate, allowing every element — from the percussion to the atmospheric synth lines — to settle into a steady, almost trance-like flow. It’s a track clearly designed for those late hours when the dancefloor slips into collective hypnosis.

Throughout Life With Mountains, Dani Navarrete and Richard Rozen demonstrate a refined understanding of minimal groove architecture. The EP doesn’t chase maximal impact; instead, it thrives on subtlety, patience and texture. With mastering handled by 6Feet at 6Feet Studios, the sound remains crisp and balanced, reinforcing the record’s understated but effective club functionality.
